Pirelli unveils new range of tyres made for all-electric vehicles
Electric vehicles are pretty much dominating the Geneva Motor Show headlines this year. This week we have seen the unveiling of many new all-electric concepts and models, such as the beautiful Italdesign DaVinci, Tesla's newest rival in the Polestar 2 and the incredible Rimac C_Two. Amongst all of this, there is one story from Geneva you might've missed - and that is the news that Pirelli will be launching a brand new range of tyres that are being made exclusively for EVs.
Now this might sound like a bizarre concept - but with the speeds that these new electric hypercars could potentially achieve, they would need some seriously good rubber to make sure that they're not lacking grip at high speeds. As they have a reputation for making bespoke tyres (such as their range for Formula One) - you instantly know that Pirelli are the best people for the job.
Pirelli has introduced a tyre called the P Zero 'Elect,' which is designed with electric supercars in mind. These tyres offer low rolling resistance (to maximise range) with an emphasis on maintaining a quiet and comfortable ride. The tyres were fitted to the Italdesign DaVinci and the Pininfarina Battista during their debuts this week at Geneva as well. Pirelli also unveiled their new P Zero Winter tyres, which offer increased stability in cold and slippery conditions - whilst "performing and feeling like a summer tyre".
Pirelli has also introduced new P Zero Track 'Adrenaline' tyres, which can sync up to a smartphone app to feed back telemetry data on the spot. Finally, in a bid to increase customisation options for car owners - Pirelli has unveiled 'Colour Edition' tyres for models such as the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera - with the tyres featuring different coloured sidewalls to "add a unique touch to any vehicle".
