Please help
I have some weird whines coming from my engine, the higher pitched kettle like whine is the alternator belt, I just tightened it up because it slipped, I will change it very soon but I am worried about the background whine. There is no specific spot from where it comes from, I have a 1.6 SOHC 8v 75hp carb engine, I have no power steering or A/C. Is this also the belt or something else? It doesnt effect anything other than just being annoying, gearbox is fine, battery charging even on cold is fine, no squeaks or any mechanical noises anywhere, maybe this is normal for these engines/older engines. I just want to know what it is so please comment if you have any idea what that might be.

  • Belt tension. It’s not fully aligned and is rubbing on the edge of a pulley. Likely just needs the tensioner adjusting to stop it now, usually they self align after a while.
