A challenging mix of three high and steeply banked curves and a difficult infield track, Daytona is a unique venue on the endurance circuit but one where Porsche has excelled over the years. Its first victory here was a dominant one-two-three at the 1968 24 Hours for Daytona with the new and cutting edge 907.

Daytona has only been resurfaced twice in nearly half a century, and it has a reputation for being precariously soft as a result. To make matters worse, due to its early position in the racing calendar, considerably more of its 24 hours pass in darkness than the high summer slot at Le Sarthe, making it an almighty test of a driver’s concentration.

Nevertheless Porsche has nailed eighteen more outright victories here, making it something of a spiritual home from home.
