Polaris is building a new Slingshot bike/car thingy
The Polaris Slingshot is a three-wheeled thingy that's not exactly a car and it isn't exactly a bike either. It is, however, enormous fun to drive. Polaris introduced the previous Slingshot in 2015, I was fortunate enough to drive it and it is amazing. And that's the reason why I was thrilled when I learnt they're going to introduce an all-new Polaris later this month.
The Slingshot is considered an autocycle by certain US states, whereas other states actually require a motorcycle license. That's odd. Anyway, the current generation Slingshot is powered by a GM 2.4-litre EcoTec four-cylinder motor, making 173hp, but this engine has been discontinued by General Motors and that means the new Slingshot is definitely going to use something else and it will almost certainly come with more power.
Three-wheeled vehicles live in a small a niche of the market. They offer a completely different type of driving experience, but it definitely feels like you're driving a car, not a bike.
We don't know for sure yet because Polaris has recently released a teaser video which unfortunately doesn't say anything about power or anything else, it just says "The biggest news since the Slingshot launched in 2015 is coming. Don't miss it." The only thing we can gather from the video is that the new Slingshot is going to replace the old circular lights new stylised LED lights.
The new Polaris Slingshot will be officially unveiled on January 14, 2020.
