47-year-old Darren Emanuel claimed being caught wearing a POLITE vest "ruined his life" in an interview given to Motorcycle News last week.
The BMW R1200RT owner was commuting home on his white ex-police bike when a genuine bike cop spotted him coming the other way.
The officer clearly wasn't impressed and checked Darren's bike over thoroughly, telling him his white helmet, high-vis POLITE vest and the BMW constituted that of a police officer's. At this point the officer took some notes and let it go...
Here's where Mr Emanuel should've let things go...
Mr Emanuel wasn't happy with being stopped, and made an official complaint against the officer.
The police doubled down and instead charged him with wearing a police uniform, calculated to deceive, and the case went to court.
Whilst waiting for his court appearance, his insurance company cancelled his policy. The eventual Magistrate verdict was a conditional discharge, with Mr Emanuel being handed a bill for £670 costs.
He went on to tell MCN;
""After the news of the conviction appeared online my job contract wasn’t renewed and my landlord served a notice on my house."
Do you think he deserved a dressing down, or were the police being overzealous?
