Porsche have gone and done it. The new Nurburgirng lap record belongs to the mental Porsche 919 Hybrid EVO racecar. The no-limits racecar managed to clock a timing of 5:19:546 on the 20.8 km patch of the green hell. Porsche's Le Mans winning driver and Nurburgring veteran Timo Bernhard was piloting this machine when they set a new record.

The previous lap record belonged to Porsche as well however, it was set back in 1983 by Stefan Bellof in the Porsche 956. Bellof had managed to bring the 956 back home in 6:11:13 during the qualifying lap for a race.

Few weeks ago, Porsche were spotted testing the 919 EVO at the Nurburgring. It was being speculated the 1200hp racecar was capable of setting a sub 6 lap time. Some were even arguing it could go sub 5. However, the official record as it stands now is at 5:19:546. Almost 1 minute quicker than the previous all time lap record. Will this lap record stand for another 35 years? Let's hope not!
