Porsche Carrera GT breaks Bring A Trailer record with $1.9 Million Sale

It's also the most anyone's ever spent on the V10 sportscar.

A 780-mile 2005 Porsche Carrera GT sold for a final hammer price of $1,902,000 on January 5. It is now the priciest car ever sold by online auction house Bring A Trailer.

The previous Bring A Trailer record holder is a 1961 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster — which sold for $1,430,356 last July. It now sits second behind the Carrera GT.

Last September, someone on BaT purchased a Carrera GT for $1.3 million. But this sale now sets a world record for the highest amount of money paid at auction for the V10 supercar. This is no surprise given just how special this car is... and all of the hype surrounding this model.

This fire engine red Porsche Carrera GT is one of 1,270 examples built during a four-year production run. Power comes from a mid-mounted 5.7-liter V10 mated to a six-speed manual transaxle with a limited-slip differential. When new, it produced 605 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 435 lb-ft of torque at 5,750 rpm.
