When it comes to everyday convenience combined with sports car traits, no one does it better than Porsche. The brand currently offers both blue-blooded sports cars and practical offerings like crossovers and SUVs with sports car-akin characteristics. But for people who prefer to possess some surplus practicality without compromising performance, Porsche may have come up with something.

The German carmaker’s accessory department, Porsche Tequipment, has come up with a Performance roof box. This roof-mounted luggage carrier offers 480 litres worth of trunk space, translates to three snowboards or at least five pairs of skis, while capable of withholding 75 kilos.

Aware that this roof-box would be fixed atop a Porsche, a Taycan Cross Turismo to be exact, the men from Stuttgart already tested its durability at speeds of up to 124 mph (or 200kph). The box was designed with a “form over function” ethos. “The test programme for the roof box was very demanding,” explains Jochen Schmid, Director Tequipment at Porsche, which saw the box undergoing wind tunnel testing. “On its way to series maturity, it was driven on test tracks for several thousand kilometres as part of overall vehicle testing.”

Porsche is further offering personalisation to its roof box clients. This new cargo extension can be had in a variety of colours, including options for its side blades as well, such as high-gloss Black, Dolomite Silver Metallic, Carrara White Metallic, and Volcano Grey Metallic.

The box can be opened from either side for added convenience. But what isn’t that convenient is the price - 1,150 Euros (or $1,400) for the box, and options such as coloured side blades will cost you 350 Euros (or $425).

  • Typical Porsche, overpriced unnecessary crap and personalisation options…… really!!! Clearly Porsche are happy overcharging their gullible customers abs their customers are stupid to pay for this stuff. If you are the sort of person that needs more space, you should have bought a different car!!

    • Porsche offers personalization options to cater well to customer’s individual tastes. Some only need more space for some of the time, or they already have another car.

    • Have a look at the Porsche options list and it’s ludicrous. If you want red seat belts it’s a cost extra yet costs Porsche no more money. This is cash you won’t get back come resale time. Same goes for loads of the options.
