Porsche is making some big noise with their new car...that is virtually silent.

Porsche has been turning heads and racking up a fair amount of accomplishments with its new all electric car. But is it a true Porsche?

In 2015, Porsche revealed that they have been working on building their very first, all electric car. Then it was named, "Mission E Concept", but today we now know it as the 2020 Porsche Taycan. The Taycan has been raising some eyebrows and causing quite a scene for devout Porsche lovers and your general car enthusiasts alike, but what is everything we know about it?

To start with, lets talk about the engine, or in this case, engines. The first electric Porsche will be fitted with not one, but two engines. One on the front axle to supply power to the front wheels, and another on the rear axle to supply power to the rear. With that, the Taycan is of course going to be All-Wheel-Drive, however, Porsche has mentioned that they may produce a cheaper Rear-Wheel-Drive version in the future. With the two engines, the Taycan will also produce up to 600 Brake Horsepower, reaching up to 155 mph, and going 0-60 mph in about three seconds. The Taycan has also proven itself at the Nürburgring labeling itself as the fastest street-legal fully electric car, running a brisk lap-time of 7:42. This topples the Honda Civic Type-R as well as the Aston Martin V8 Vantage.

But is it practical? Well, so long as you have access to a fast charger, you can charge the Taycan for four minutes and gain up to sixty miles before you need to charge again. Fully charged, the Taycan has a range of slightly over 300 miles. Plus, you there is no need to worry about which side your charging port is on while pulling up to a charging station as the 2020 Porsche Taycan has a port on both the driver and passenger sides.

The interior of the 2020 Porsche Taycan is obviously extremely influenced by the use of touchscreen devices in today's vehicles. With touchscreen available literally on every spot of the front dash, ranging from the passenger side to beneath the air vents, and the sheer amount of technology available from not just the driver seat, put the passenger seat as well, could the Taycan be Porsche's challenge toward Tesla?

What do you think of Porsche's very first, all electric car? Is it a "true" Porsche? Could it make Porsche a larger threat for Tesla? Would you personally own one?

  • If all cars transition to electric, what will differentiate them from each other? Historically, Porsche's flat six was different from an Aston Martin 12 cylinder, which was different from a V8 Mustang. The automotive world just won't interest me if this is what the future holds.

    • Gotta agree just going to be some electric engine, some different size batteries and a chassis over it. I can't feel any excitement talking about these electric vehicles. Sure for daily driver its fine, but as a fun sunday car. A nice...

  • Aston Martin Rapide E for me, better looking, same performance and socially acceptable unlike a Porsche!

    • Why would you say Porsche’s are socially unacceptable?

    • Furthermore, what makes an Aston socially acceptable?

  • I have no doubt that it’s exciting to drive and handles as a Porsche should. That being said I am not inclined to buy one. For me, there needs to be more to appreciate about the experience. The roar of the engine. The sound of turbochargers spooling up. A finely tuned exhaust note. The smell of gasoline and exhaust. Electric cars just seem so sterile by comparison.
