Porsche Macan EV prototype spotted testing
The next Macan is going to be an EV, and now we have the first images of the prototype in action.
The new car will be the brand's second all-electric vehicle since the Taycan, and is slated to begin production this year at Leipzig.
The Chairman of Porsche’s board of management has expressed optimism for these electrification plans, stating that by 2022 they will be 'investing more than six billion euros in electric mobility' and that by 2025 '50% of all new Porsche vehicles could have an electric drive system'.
Whether you like it or not, you got to admit that the old Porsche Macan is a pretty-looking SUV, although the same cannot be stated for the Macan EV prototype, which looks like a slightly melted copy of the Mercedes GLE Coupe that was made by Geely.
However, where it lacks in looks, the Macan EV does make up in technology, as according to Porsche the car will have the same 800-volt technology as the Taycan, which can get 400km in 20 minutes, and 80% charge in just 17 minutes.
It is pretty interesting to witness Porsche heading in an electrified direction, and I am intrigued to see what they're going to do next.
