Porsche patents radical new self-driving car design
Porsche have long been known for creating some of the best driving cars out there, with icons like the 911 representing the benchmark on which all sports cars are based. However, Porsche is entering a brave new world, with cars like the all-electric Taycan Porsche is positioning itself for the future.
However, judging by the German automakers latest patent filling they plan on going much further. The bulbous looking vehicle you see above is described as "a device to improve comfort in an autonomous driving mode." Judging by what we can see here the roof can be raised or lowered to increase cabin space once in autonomous driving mode.
Alternatively, when lowered the car will become significantly more aerodynamic and could provide a more sporty driving experience. Having said that, it is fully possible that Porsche are developing this car for a fleet of self-driving vehicles. Something which could bring them into a totally new market of ca sharing and taxis.
However, this is just a patent; there is no indication that Porsche have any imminent plans to put this design into production. On the other hand, it provides an interesting glimpse into the future of the renowned German automaker.
