PRIMA GUIGIARO

In 2002 Bburago collaborated with italian car designer Giorgietto Giugiaro. Guigiaro created the first and only model car for Bburago, the PRIMA GIUGIARO in 1/18 and in 1/43 scale. Two types were made coupe and roadster. The scale model car is based on the real concept car. The PRIMA is the first and only model ever made from an automotive designer for a model manufacturer.

The PRIMA scale model i have is from 2003. For these 18 years the car aged, the parts started to loose, the paint started to fall off. Then it came to me the idea to hang it up on the wall, to make a car art. The idea came to me when i was looking for posters from the stores in Formula 1, WRC, WEC and other similar websites for my man cave. Before i make the scale model car art first i had to reasamble the car to tightened the parts and use the disadvantage of the paint to advantage.

The car is reasambled and now i have to figuer out what design to give the base on which the car is going to be mounted and making the frame on which the car is going to be hang on the wall. For the base on which is going to be the car i chose an art canvas.

The design of the canvas is based on the livery of the car. Since the car's design resembles to that of a fighter jet, i made the chequered flag design looking like the fighter jet wings, which is continuation of the chequered flag livery on the doors of the car. In the middle a key element for the italian cars of the livery design and that is the italian flag. The blue and red stripes are also continuation of the car livery giving the ilusio, that the car is flying on the road. Here comes the advantage of the fallen paint, giving the ilusion that the car is going so fast that the paint starts to fall off the car. The grey triangles symbolise the road.

The frame on which the canvas is going to be mounted, i made it from plain chipboard. The canvas is held to the wooden frame with stainless steel wood screws. The final result diecast art !
