Race to get Cook to starting line of WRC ***UPDATED***
How badly do you want what you say you want? Louise Cook wants it bad. Really bad. Bad enough to sell her FIA World Rally Championship Trophy, which is a one off, because it's the only non-gender FIA rally trophy ever awarded to a woman.
This isn't the first time the rally driver has sold trophies to fund her racing career. In 2012 Cook auctioned her trophies in order to continue competing in the Production Car World Rally Championship, which she then won. Had she not been able to make those payments in 2012 she would've faced a fine and expulsion from the championship. Who said rally driving hasn't been nail biting since Group B? And it's that trophy that she's selling on eBay now. The current bid is £1,220.
Fans have set up a GoFundMe page to raise the £8,000 needed to plug the hole left by sponsors who delayed their payments. At the time of print the page had raised£1,820 and has five days left on the clock.
Back in 2012, Cook told the BBC, "Before a rally, you want to be looking at the stages and preparing. I always seem to be trying to get as much money in as I can just to cover that round."
Some things never seem to change... or do they?
***UPDATE*** Cook's GoFundMePage has raised £8,050 at of 09:50 on 11.01.17. POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
We're really looking forward to following Cook's journey this season.
