RACEABOUT 02: FROM STUDY TO PRACTICE
Very often university students, for a mere exercise, are called upon carrying out projects that most of the time will remain unfulfilled. But in 1998, members of the Helsinki Polytechnic joined forces with some of the University of Art and Design to develop a small roadster.

The RaceAbaout 2000 was thus born, and it was later presented to the public at the 2000 Geneva Motor Show. It was such a success that almost immediately began the student's team started to design a second car. This second car, shown for the first time at the Louvre museum in 2002, was called RaceAbout 02.

The RaceAbout02 was a minimalist roadster extreme while the design was simple and clean. In the cockpit, there was the essential for driving: two Connolly leather seats, a leather steering wheel, the manual transmission knob to five reports and indicators connected to the engine.

The latter was a Saab B204L Turbo 2.0 driven by a Saab FC 55 gearbox and coupled to rear-wheel drive. Such configuration could deliver the power of 231 hp with a torque of 250 Nm, guaranteeing a top speed of 230 km / h with acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.2 seconds.

Based on a monocoque aluminium frame covered with a carbon fibre body, the RaceAbout 02 weighed just 850 kg and it featured a braking system consisting of four AP Racing ventilated disc brakes.

The car was again another success and it opened the way to the development of the next RaceAbout 05.
