Radford reveals an iconic Formula 1 livery on their new Super Car
Can you guess which F1 car livery this is?
Radford Motors is a revived British coachbuilder company directed by F1 legend Jenson Button, TV personality Ant Anstead and car designer Mark Stubbs. This car the 'Project 62' will be released on August 7, so only a week away. Now the cars name actually is inspired by the Lotus Type 62 which also shares it's livery on this new car too. All Radford needed to do was acquire the special paint scheme. Additionally, there will be only 62 units made ironically.
However, the engine in the Type 62 was used in the Lotus Elite (a 1.2l Inline 4 sports car from the late 50s and early 60s.) This was before Lotus then started to use Toyota engines in their two door sports coupes such as the Evora and the Exige.
But Jensen Button, Ant Anstead and Mark Stubbs are not the founders of Radford and the company is certainly not brand new. The original founder was called Harold Radford who founded the company back in 1948. He was responsible for the building of Rolls Royce and Bentley vehicles after World War Two was over.
"It's amazing to be able to announce another livery acquisition. Gold Leaf is, without question, one of the most iconic racing liveries ever to grace an F1 car, and the fact that it also features on the iconic Lotus Type 62, to which our car pays homage, makes it even more special," - Jensen Button.
The Gold Leaf was the name given to the famous livery and was the first ever Formula One sponsor. Infact It is not widely known, but Radford was responsible for the fibreglass bodywork of the iconic Le Mans Champion: Ford GT40.
It was painted onto the Lotus founder Colin Chapman's vehicle in the 1968 Formula 1 season and was later seen on Emerson Fittipaldi and Jochen Rindt's Lotus Type 72 car in the 1970 F1 season.
The reveal will be at a set event at the Lyon Air Museum in Orange County California in the United States but it is not an ordinary public even. Radford will select guests to appear who fulfil their criteria which is being very wealthy owners and other VIPS. One thing we don't know is how many of the 62 of these cars have been sold.
