Everyone remembers the great years of Group B rally. It was considered by many the best rally period ever. Great cars and great pilots flying between great stages all over the world. One of the best stages in Group B history was in 1986 in Portugal, more precisely in Sintra.

The Sintra rally was marked by the enormous speeds that the cars achieved on the asphalt and also by the huge amount of public that was thrown to the middle of the road to be able to see better the skill of the pilots. But in 1986 everything changed.

After the crash of the Ford RS200 of the Portuguese pilot Joaquim Santos, who killed 3 people and injured 30 others, the Sintra rally ended up, to the great sadness of the thousands of spectators who visited Sintra every year just to see those astonoshing cars.

in 1986 everything changed.

But the great sadness of the spectators came to an end, with the return of the “Rally De Portugal Histórico”. This is a race that runs throughout Portugal, and of course by the mythical Serra de Sintra. This event brought hundreds of fans, eager to see their childhood glories back. Of course the riders were not the same but some of the cars were still the same. This event was able to bring together the great cars and the great roads of the golden era of the rally, to the great happiness of the hundreds of spectators present.
