Rally Monte Carlo 2018: Hyundai i20 WRC
1/18 scale diecast made by IXO
Snow and ice, heavy rain in places and then bright sunshine again: The Rally Monte Carlo (January 25-28, 2018) lived up to its reputation as the most unpredictable rally on the WRC calendar and challenged the drivers with a whole variety of weather conditions. The choice of tires was correspondingly difficult, from dry tires, rain tires and winter tires with and without spikes had to be chosen.
The norwegian driver duo Andreas Mikkelsen/Anders Jæger also competed in the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC with start number "4". Unfortunately, the duo was forced to retire early in the rally due to technical issues.
IXO recently released a miniature edition of the rally car in 1/18 scale, which as far as I know was completely sold out within a very short time. I was able to secure one and would now like to show you the model in more detail.
Since I already have a few models of IXO in 1/43, the anticipation for the 1/18 model was of course great. I was aware that there are no opening doors or hoods - but I was a bit disappointed when I noticed that the wheels are not steerable either. But that was all to complain about. Apart from that, the miniature is very well done and has a lot of nice details.
The body has harmonic proportions and looks filigree despite the 1/18 scale. This is also supported by the numerous flaps and body extensions. All attachments including the generously designed and with sponsor stickers provided rear spoiler in carbon look fits perfectly into the sharp-edged body shape. The paintwork, including numerous decals, completes the picture. The multi-spoke rims with Michelin tires are also cleanly finished and correctly sized.
A special highlight (which can hardly be overlooked) are the attached auxiliary headlights, which are used on night stages. These have also been recreated in a matching carbon look and further enhance the model. The jagged front looks even more aggressive as a result.
As already mentioned, this model is my entry model into the 1/18 - world of IXO. I am more than satisfied and can already tell you that more models will follow.
Enjoy the pictures!!!
