Rare vector avtech wx-3r roadster goes up for auction
RM Sobethy's will be auctioning off the only Vector Avtech WX-3R roadster prototype in Arizona on the 17th of January this year. You will be able to find it waiting at Lot #152 with a expected price tag as little from $450,000 to as much as $550,000. You may about now be wondering about why it is so expensive. To see why we need to look at its history and how it came to be.
The Vector Avtech WX-3R was revealed at the 1993 Geneva Motor Show along with the Vector Avtech WX-3. they took the media by storm that year at the Geneva Motor Show because of their futuristic looks and specs.
Not only that but they were both based and expected to be the successor of Vector W8. Gerald Weigert wasn't only the founder of Vector but the chief designer and wanted it to go into production later that year.
But after a take over from Megatech they fired Weigart from his own company. It was later scrapped from being built and sold by Megatech because Gerald Weigert copyrighted the design of the two cars.
With its 7.0 litre twin-turbocharged V8 both were expected to have three different engine configurations that could produce from as little as 600 hp to a whopping 1200 hp.
It had a top speed of 248 mph (400 km/h) and could reach 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 3.3 seconds which is quite impressive even compared to today's standards.
Each car was painted a different colour with the WR-3 being a teal-blue and this one, the WR-3R, being a purple because Gerald Weigert wanted it to be the same colour as his Aquajet jet-ski company.
