Reaching out to Volvo lovers. I will soon have to leave my V70 from 2013 for a new V60. But I'm lost with the new engines... Currently I have a D3, 163 hp and 400 nm of torque. The new B4 engine looks interesting, both in petrol and diesel versions. Who has such configuration and could tell me a bit more about it? Worse case I will try both! thanks!

  • I have just ordered a new XC60 B5 diesel mild hybrid, having had an XC60 D5 with dealer fitted Polestar upgrade for 2 years. Superb - 0-60 mph (or approx 100 km/h) in well under 7 sec and 40 mpg (or 7 litres/100 km). Euro6 diesels using AdBlue are very clean (no diesel exhaust smell for example). Had an XC60 T3 petrol service loan car for a day and wasn’t too impressed. It was low tune being a T3, but lacked the diesel’s low down torque and was harsh above 3500 rpm. I’d go for a D4 if you can but D3 will be fine if you need to shave a little off the price.

    • Hi Nigel, this sounds very interesting. I'm currently considering a diesel as I do about 30'000 km per year and I like the low torque that I can't find on a petrol. Drawback, the diesel doesn't sound as nice as the petrol. Polestar will be a must...

  • Owner of a 2019 V60 T8. It’s a superb engine. But the hybrid only makes sense depending on your commute. The petrol, as any 300bhp petrol engine, is thirsty ! But the turbo and supercharger’s sound is very nice.

Right now there’s a T6 hybrid with around 250bhp petrol (+eletric). However I don’t know if that will reduce fuel consumption, but it is cheaper to buy .

    • It's expensive so I'd say go for the T5 if you want petrol power and any of the deisel cars are decent, a non hybrid D4 will get the car moving.

    • If money is a problem, than a D3 will work too 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • The V70’s rear and rear three quarters is amazing to look at!! But the new V60 is a piece of art. It’s a worthy change. I’d suggest you to get the T6 (with or without the hybrid assist depending on how you feel about hybrid vehicles) or the T8 if you can afford it. Don’t see a point in the other engines, especially the diesels. Even though they are quite good. Volvo themselves will stop manufacturing Diesel engines soon.
