Rear of the Year 2019 - Automotive edition
You decide the winner!
The rear of the year awards is a funny thing isn't it. This has been a running British tradition for quite some time now and always seems to be won by the same sorts of people. The current holders are Amanda Holden and Andy Murray...for some reason. But, I wonder if it is the same with cars?
With this in mind, I took to google to try and find some of the best rear ends of the year...cars that is, I won't discuss what else I found. Now, there have been plenty of great releases this year from all varieties of cars. So, I will try to be fair with my nominations and then let you decide at the end which car has the 'Rear of the Year. If you have another suggestion, please feel free to tell me in the comments!
Here are the 8 nominees:
Porsche 718 Cayman GT4
As much as I loved the 981 generation GT4, there is just something so special about the looks of the new and improved 718 model. I think it is mostly down to the more aggressive rear diffuser and angled rear wing. The new exhaust placement is excellent too.
Lamborghini Huracan EVO
If aggression and sharp angles is what you are after, then it doesn't get much better than the new Lamborghini Huracan EVO. The lines at the rear of this Italian supercar are so much better than the original Huracan, especially with the new exhaust placement.
Aston Martin DBX
I'm going to start by saying, I hate the rear of this car. As much as I want to like it, I just don't. I can see they have tried to merge it with the new Vantage but it just hasn't work in my eyes. This is on the list because of this. It may not be pretty but it certainly took the world by surprise with its weird hump at the back a bit like the hunchback of Notre Dame.
Despite McLaren releasing yet what felt like another 1,000 new models, the Elva has really stood out for me in terms of looks. To me, a lot of McLarens just look the same, there I said it. This however, looks different. Yes, it has a similar rear to the 720s but that isn't a bad thing by any means. It is somehow more aggressive looking which I really like.
I mean, when you talk about good rear ends, you don't need to look much further than the brand new Audi RS6. This has one of the best rear ends of a car I have ever seen. The angles Audi have chosen with this one are quite breathtaking really. From the taillights all the way to the rear diffuser. It simply oozes aggression and squat.
Ferrari F8 Tributo
This was a tricky call to make. It was a toss up between this and the upcoming Ferrari SF90 Stradale but for me, this has much better looking rear. Yes, there is a lot going on and yes it looks like it is trying to squeeze a 599 out but that doesn't mean it isn't good looking. If Cindy Crawford gave birth to Brad Pitt, would that be such a bad thing? I really need to stop with these analogies.
Go on, shoot me, I don't care. I am sure you are well aware of what this is. This is the new mad creation from Elon Musk at Tesla. Yes, I know this probably won't look much like it when it comes to production but you have to admire his bravery when it comes to design. The rear is just a flat sheet of metal. If that reverses into you, you will be as flat as the rear of the new Defender.
Lamborghini Aventador SVJ
I know there is already a Lamborghini on this list but when they are making cars that look like this, it is hard not to acknowledge them. The Aventador SVJ has to have the most aggressive rear end I have seen on a car. Name a better one and I'll cover myself in mayo and dance around the streets of Rome singing, 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.'
