Recently I re-watched a few old #TopGear episodes and in said episodes the topic was the british car manufacturing industry. Most people, if presented with the question what they think is the greatest car-producing country, will tell you how it's the Germans as they "invented the car", the Italians because they "make the most beautiful cars" or the Americans because they "made the first mass-produced car". If you'd ask me I'd say the United Kingdom. We were and are the true pioneers

  • It was the british who came up with the idea of the car. A Scottish man by the name of Robert Anderson built an electric, four-wheeled carriage in 1832, many years before Karl Benz invented the combustion engine (1885) and the first "true" automobile. It was the british Lotus F1 team that made F1 what it is today (despite the FIA making ridiculous rules) and no other country comes close to the sheer amount of manufacturers the UK used to have. Over a hundred individual companies making cars. And in the picture is one of the cars the UK used to make.
