Hot Wheels Flying Colors Porsche Carrera

41w ago

1975 was the second year of the Flying Colors series for Hot Wheels. It was also the year that this Porsche made its debut. This particular one here today is the earliest version of what would soon become the “P-911”. How soon? How about halfway through the first year of production. Hot Wheels retooled the molds which removed “Porsche” from the rear end and changed the base from “Porsche Carrera” to “P-911”. The other tell tale sign of an early production version is the use of the cap style redline wheel for the front and through-hole style wheels on the rear. It’s amazing how detailed this casting was when it first came out 45 years ago.

  • EXCELLENT piece!

The first thing I noticed was the wheel discrepancy, but now I have another unicorn on my list. Thanks!

    • Hey thanks! They also made a white version with the same tampo layout but that one goes for waaaaay more money than I’m willing to part with.

    • OK, I now have TWO on my unicorns-to-have list.

Don't think I'll even bother with finding one online, considering their prices. I tend to rely on finding cars at flea markets and garage sales where sellers aren't looking for college...
