Reigning ERC Champ Chris Ingram Returns
Reigning ERC champion is set to make his return to competitive action in a Clio Rally5 Car
After over a year out of the sport reigning European Rally Champion Chris Ingram is set to make his return to the sport at next weekends Rally Islas Canarias. Unfortunately, he will not be competing for overall victory as he will be driving a Renault Clio Rally5 car. A vehicle in a different category to the Skoda Fabia he was in last year.
Ingram won the ERC title in Hungary last year, having beaten current championship leader Alexey Lukyanuk after both received punctures on the final stage of the Rally. Ingram is perhaps one of the most talented young divers in Rallying at the moment, yet his talents have only been able to take him thus far. Set back after set back has truly halted his career trajectory. This year he was meant to make the jump up into WRC2 but thanks to financial problems that have plagued his career in the past, most notably when it appeared he would be unable to complete his championship winning season and only managed to make it to the final round thanks to crowdfunding, then with Covid-19 really putting a halt any ant chance of a worthwhile season.
Rally Islas Canarias will also see Ingram reunited with long term co-driver Ross Whittock and the two are keen to pick off where they left off. A win simply won't be possible and it is likely this might be the only outing for the Englishman but it is better than nothing, and with optimism growing around the potential to join the WRC2 next season things finally look on the up for Ingram with this event being a huge opportunity to show what we've been missing. I for one am so happy for Chis as it was about time he got a break and wish him the best of luck next weekend and in the future.
