Less than a year after the up! GTI went off sale, VW’s entry-level hot hatch is back with us sporting that new VW badge and a £15,985 starting price.

As before, the up! is also available with a 60hp 1.0-litre triple and (imminently) a pure-electric model with a range of 162 miles – significantly better than the 99 miles quoted for the old EV.

Basic models now get 15-inch alloy wheels as standard, while White and Black Edition cars get a corresponding white or black finish for their roof and wing mirrors.
Also new is the R-Line model which gives you sporty looks but without the turbocharged thrust of the GTI. R-Lines get 16-inch alloy wheels, lowered suspension, roof and wing mirrors in black and fog lights integrated into a sportier front bumper. Inside, there are heated seats and electrically adjustable, heated door mirrors.
The new up! range is on sale now with a starting price of £12,440 while mid-range R-Line models start from £14,280. The up! you really want is the GTI model, though, and here's the perfect keyring to go with it – slap it down on a bar top and wait for the opposite sex to flock. We think....
