Details are yet to be confirmed, but it is looking more and more like 2018 will feature a Team Joest reunion of sorts as former Audi/Team Joest driver Rene Rast inches closer to singing with the Mazda/Team Joest DPi entry for the 2018 IMSA Sports Car Championship.
Rast tested with the team at Hockenheim earlier in the year and while he did not take part in the team's most recent test at Daytona, however sources within the team say that he is more than likely to be in the car next year.
Official statements from the team remain coy, however, with team principal Ralf Juttner saying, "He is an option that is being considered, but I cannot confirm anything."
The likely hangup for both team and driver are Rast's existing DTM commitments with Audi Sport Team Rosberg. As his contract with the team appears ironclad for 2018, Rast would more than likely not race a full IMSA season, instead only racing at Daytona and Sebring, with the possibility of also entering Petite Le Mans at Road America as well as the 6 hours of Watkins Glen.
Rast last drove to a Team Joest outfit when they ran under Audi colors in the 2016 WEC Season.
