Rented McLaren 720S gets destroyed while racing Lamborghini Huracan in California
Thankfully nobody was injured!
A bright orange McLaren 720S Spider has been destroyed while racing a Lamborghini Huracan on a Californian highway.
Photos of the crash were posted on Twitter by the California Highway Patrol alongside a since-deleted tweet mocking the crash, but they incorrectly identified the McLaren as a 570S.
The tweet read: “When you rent a McLaren 570 & decide to race a Lamborghini on the US-101 and crash! Next time you should consider getting the rental insurance! Luckily no one was seriously injured."
The Lamborghini was a black Huracan Spyder which you can see in the photos. While it’s not clear what actually happened, it is clear to see the McLaren driver simply wasn't able to not keep control of the 710hp British brute.
It looks like the 720S made contact with the concrete crash barriers multiple times as damage has been sustained to both the front and rear of the car. Much of the damage is located at the rear as one of the wheels, including the hub, has been completely torn off.
If the police are correct in saying the driver didn't pay extra for insurance, then they will be in big trouble and will likely have to pull out a large sum of money.
