Restored Lamborghini SV Diablo Monterey Edition is 90s supercar perfection
This 1-of-20 North American special was recently auctioned
With its striking stance and perfect proportions, the Lamborghini Diablo was wallpaper material for many when it first entered production in 1990. The Italian marque produced countless variants of the model, including the Diablo VT Roadster, GT and the SE30 Jota. However, it is the ultra-rare SV Monterey Edition that is in question today with just 20 units exclusively produced for North America.
The naturally aspirated 5.7L V12 paired with a 5-speed gated manual is said to provide the ultimate driving experience. With 530hp and 428lb-ft (520Nm) of torque all sent to the rear wheels, this 90s rocket is simply a blast. The ZF limited-slip differential, adjustable rear wing and Brembo brakes ensure that handling is sharper than your 'standard' Diablo. Expect the 0-62mph sprint to be completed in a hair under four seconds and brace yourself for the ludicrous 205mph (330kmh) top speed.
The cabin is trimmed in tan leather and the single-piece seats have stunning blue piping. As for luxury amenities, you get air conditioning, an Alpine stereo and power locks... yeah, you are not buying a Lamborghini for the interior. Nevertheless, the blue carpeting, carbon-fibre trim pieces and the six-gauge instrument cluster make the cockpit of this Diablo an exciting place to be.
This SV Monterey Edition is #15 out of 20 and has just 12K miles on the clock. However, it has undergone a complete engine rebuild, features a Tubi exhaust, has new coil packs and was repainted in factory Ocean Blue with silver SV graphics. The final result is a 200mph Lamborghini that looks like it belongs in an automotive museum behind a wall of glass. The vehicle was listed on Bring a Trailer and was sold at a bid of $235,000 USD, or approximately one kidney.
