Rivian's battery warranty absolutely smashes Tesla's policy

Rivian vehicles look very promising indeed!

Rivian and Tesla are like Harry Potter and Voldemort. They would work well together to combine powers, but the don't and therefore don't exactly get on.

With this in mind, Tesla hasn't particularly been well known for its battery warranty, which is where Rivian steps in with its really impressive policy.

Rivian has come out and said that whether you opt for the R1T truck or R1S SUV you will get a comprehensive warranty covering any and all defects for the first five years or 60,000 miles.

In addition to this, Rivian pushes this further by covering the battery pack for eight years and 175,000 miles, which is more than the average of about 125K. The drivetrain is covered for the same period too while a corrosion perforation warranty carries no mileage limit and is active for the first eight years of ownership.

All this looks like fantastic news for the start-up company and makes us even more excited to see what becomes of them when they are finally released to the public.

  • Good. Competition is good. They're buying from one of the same Companies that builds some of the batteries fitted to Teslas, so they'll have the chemistry at their fingertips. I don't believe that Rivian has 'better' tech than Tesla, just more glitzy tech... which applies to pretty much every other manufacturer as well. The thing is, you don't NEED to be better than your competitors to compete. There's a bigger market out there than there are players to feed it. Rivian has created a rather beautiful and recognisable product. It works very well, so nobody is going to be too fussed if it weighs a bit more or is less efficient at the technical level. Running a Rivian will still cost vastly less than its ICE counterpart, once you've taken the purchasing hit. They'll keep their resale value for far, far longer as well because the mechanicals just don't wear out or need much looking after whatsoever, and experience has proven that modern battery life can exceed the lifespan of the vehicle to which they are fitted.

    • Been sayin the same thing David. They are the only real competition for Tesla and have used a totally different buisness model by getting alot of Ford money and even more from Amazon allowing them to keep their heads down and working...

    • Glad someone else sees this. If I had the coin I would put it on Rivian. I've used their configurator for both the truck and SUV. Some great hardware they have going on. Not a fan of trucks or SUV's but I would own a Rivian.
