Electric truck maker Rivian has quickly become one of the most prommising automotive startups of the past few years. With a no-nonsense view towards electric pickup trucks, the Amazon-backed automaker has secured billions of dollars from various investors to bring it's pickup truck, the R1T to market.

However, for those of who thought Tesla were the only ones who can fool around, Rivian is here to prove you wrong. Because earlier today the automaker published a rather interesting video on their YouTube channel. It shows their 2021 R1T truck prototype doing a tank like turn in some mud.

For those of us who don't know, tanks are capable of turning in place by simply reversing one side of tracks and putting the other side into forward gear. Not to be outdone by a piece of American clog iron Rivian have decided that they want a go to. In the video above you can clearly see their prototype truck doing exactly that, a tank turn.

It seems that Rivian have decided that Tesla are not the only ones who can have a go at childish marketing, and you know what I kind of agree.

  • Neat and useful party trick. With 4 motors it's an easy thing to tell each corner what to do.

    • And that's actually kind of the point isn't it? It IS an easy thing to tell each wheel what to do. Precisely. Just think of the ridiculous electro-mechanical hoops we've jumped through to make something approximating "traction control"...

  • Interesting. I’m confused though, why didn’t they just make it look like the shitty scrawling of a 4 year old and call it something futuristic, like Tesla have with the cyber-truck?!
