RM Sotheby kicked off its three day Duelma Route auction earlier today. Before the weekend's through the hammer will have fallen on over 400 cars without a reserve price in sight.

The reason for this seemingly laid back attitude is explained by the circumstances of the sale. Each one of the cars, motorcycles, boats and bicycles on offer in Milan has been seized by the Italian government from a single businessman. One assumes his tax planning wasn't quite as good as his taste in automobiles...

Highlight's from today's action include;

1988 Mecedes Benz 300 E 'AMG' €84,000.

2003 Dodge Viper GTS-R €240,000.

1992 Ford Escort RS Cosworth Group N €50,400.

1987 Alfa Romeo 75 Turbo Evoluzione IMSA €336,000.

1953 Alfa Romeo 1900 C Sprint Touring €358,400.

2005 Ford GT €336,000.

1998 BMW Z3 M Coupé €64,960.

1993 Porsche 964 Turbo €218,400.

Reserve or no reserve, if today's prices are anything to go by it looks like bargains will be hard to find.

RM Sotheby will publish full results on Monday. Find them here: www.rmsothebys.com

  • Not sure if all cars where from one owner, RM Auctions mentioned that about 200 vehicles where offered by the Italian government. Got some real bargains and very high prices!! The MC12 sold for over 3 mln euros... The Ferrari 275 GTB/6C Alloy for more than € 3,4 mln. On the other hand somebody got real lucky with a Jaguar XK 120 OTS; sold for as little as € 87k!!!
