
Rotary powered motorcycles aren’t a common thing. Norton were the standout company to develop wankel-powered bikes, but success on and off the track was never forthcoming.
Brian Crighton has been working with rotary motorcycle tech for donkey’s years, and he’s the forefront of knowledge on how to make a wankel bike go really fast.
After a break-in at their factory a few years ago set development back, they now have a new model that’s in the final stages of development. Here’s their CR700P from 2013 ridden by Jamie Whitham.

Wankel engines suit bikes due to their compact design, light weight and large power output. Refining one enough to work properly in a race bike has yet to be perfected, but hopefully we see more progress soon!

I agree, and in the current climate any engine needs to be frugal. Heres hoping.
I know that Mazda who are the only company thats stuck with rotary power struggle with the apex seals, is that not still going to be an issue?
There’s been some talk about new space-age ceramics that virtually eliminate apex seal and oil burning issues. In reality, I’ve yet to see a proven platform with my own eyes. MPG figures are supposedly a drawback too. Here’s hoping Brian...
