In its first go at the USA’s 'Nürburgring', VIRginia International Raceway, a street-legal Ford GT has broken the lap record. The GT’s breathtaking 2:43 second lap beat the record set by the Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid hypercar, by a tenth of a second. Amazing, considering the whole affair wasn't a pre-planned lap-record attempt. Whats interesting to note, is that the GT's run at VIR wasn't even a Competition Series spec car, which comes with an aircon delete, the optional titanium exhaust and other weight-saving features. Suffice to say, the Ford supercar could have gone even faster. The 652kw Porsche’s record has been under assault in recent years from other American makers, with the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 posting a 2.44.6 in 2015 and a Dodge Viper ACR hammering out a 2.44.2 in 2016. Ford Motor Company's GT supercar is powered by a 3.5 litre twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine making 482kw and 746nm of torque, and is priced at ZAR 6 million (US$500K) in the USA. #TunedAutomotive #SomeShitAboutCars
