Saturday Night Yielded Mixed Results

It seems to be about track conditions.

We all gathered for the challenge again this weekend. We were racing on a prepped 1/4 mile track. There was a catch however. Left lane was street tires and the right lane was full slicks or drag radials ONLY. The sun was up and the temp was about 92 degrees. Not great conditions but good. The track does run from east to west.

The head to head racing went to the Camaro tonight, I am sad to say. The Camaro has a new set of Mickey Thomson drag radials and a fresh dyno tune that added 46hp over our previous run at the track. The Mustang had the Ford Performance cold air kit installed. The kit also includes an 87MM throttle body replacing the stock 80MM unit. That is a near 20% bigger throttle body. Ford also provides a tune that was installed. The kit is supposed to yield about 19hp and 18 Ft lbs of torque at peak. About 42 ft lbs at 2000RPM.

We both invested about the same amount of money in our cars from first to second meeting.

The Camaro was running 12.31.61et @112.22mph to 12.4432et @ 111.66mph. The Mustang ran 13.0705et @110.35 to 13.1996et @ 110.48mph

The Camaro was the clear winner.

Until....

The Southern contingent headed South.

I made another 3 runs as the left lane continued to deteriorate. 13.1769et @111.03mph was the best of those passes.

Then came my chance to see what was what. The track organized a gambles shot out. That required opening both lanes to all cars. I managed to be the first car in line when the right lane opened and the shot out was being organized.

12.2104et @ 111.86mph! This is quite an improvement from 13.1351et @ 110.35mph, my best from the last trip to the track. The temp had dropped about to about 87 degrees. All things can never be the same, temp, sun on track etc. That is a full tenth of a second faster than the Camaro ran all day. That leads me to wonder what the result would be if we were able to change lanes while the Camaro was still at the track.....

We are already planning to continue this next spring...
