As I'm sure you now know, The American is no longer with us for The Grand Tour season 2. You can read about that further, here.
Whether you liked him or not, the trio were forced into trying something different as obviously the BBC would, and did, stop them from using a silent driver, i.e, the Stig.
So even if you thought his character was awful, or that his anti-anything American remarks were tiresome, let's say goodbye to The American by watching his best, or worst bits. That bit's up to you.

Couldn’t be happier to see him go. Mike is a hell of a good driver, and has forgotten more about running a car at its limit than most of us will ever know. That being said the character was annoying and uninteresting
They should use tanner foust if they need a talking driver.
They needed to give him a backstory. I was hoping that they would encounter him in the wilderness or something.
Exactly Colin. He didn't need to be silent. He could have narrated the plus and minus of the car or compared it with others he drove. In the end I envision everyone's collective eyes rolling every time he was in the screen.
He could have even mocked whichever of the 3 presenters were reporting on the car, made some international fun of each other’s preferences and tastes in cars, and give some American perspective on the pluses and minuses of these cars for us...
