Scale model pics: 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL "Gullwing" W 198

Did you know that the "Gullwing" doors were introduced on the 300 SL because conventional doors were not compatible with the light-weight spaceframe chassis (50kg only!)? The "Gullwing" doors became the most distinctive feature of the car. The 300 SL was the first 4-stroke production passenger vehicle in the world to get direct fuel injection. Isn't she a beauty?   • There's more where that came from. Mostly of the green one. But the SLS is aging quite well, save for the now-loose action of the doors.
