Schumacher's F2001 Becomes The Most Expensive F1 Car At $7.5 Million!
For the first time ever, a car was included in the Contemporary Arts Evening Auction and it exceeded all the expectations and settled all the doubts of the event organizers regarding selling a car as a contemporary art.
In 2001, Michael Schumacher won the Moncao Grand Prix as well as his fourth F1 World Championship in the F2001 (chassis #211). This car also managed to secure the Constructor's Championship for Ferrari during the 2001 season.
RM Sotheby's were expecting to sell this iconic car for around $4-5 million. However, the final price after the hammer strike was $7.5 million! This makes it the most expensive modern Formula One car right now. The previous record of $3.2 million was also held by Schumacher' F1 car from 2004.
To be included in the same auction where artifacts of significant historical importance were sold for prices as high as $450 million can definitely be considered as a highlight of Ferrari's 70th anniversary celebrations.
