Toyota may have just introduced the new Corolla a few weeks ago, that hasn’t stopped Toyota GB developing their 2019 BTCC contender.

The new Corolla Hatchback is being prepared for its debut in the highly competitive British Touring Car Championship, and is being campaigned by Team Toyota GB and Speedworks Motorsport .

The new Corolla replaces the larger, outgoing Avensis, a car which Speedworks took both the team and driver trophies in the independent category over the past two years. Tom Ingram will be returning for 2019 as the main driver.

The move will see Speedworks step up from being an independent team, to the manufacturer supported works field, which will put it in tougher territory. Though Toyota is the only manufacturer team confirmed so far for next year, this year’s constructor entries included racing versions of the Honda Civic Type R, Vauxhall Astra, Subaru Levorg, and the BMW 125i M Sport.

The 2019 BTCC season starts at Brand Hatch on 6th April 2019.
