Classic Porsche 911 prices have been on the rise over the last few years, and they never seem to stop going up. It isn't uncommon to pay tens of thousands of dollars for one, like what you can see here.

This very rusty Porsche may just look like an ordinary piece of scrap metal to some people, but to a Porsche nerd this 911 E Targa is like gold dust, hence the near $40,000 price tag.

The car has been listed for sale by Beverly Hills Car Club and is currently on sale for $39,950 on eBay. Only a few details about the vehicle’s history are provided which includes how it ended up looking like this, but it also explains how the car has had a full-engine rebuild.

When it was new, the 911 E Targa sat between the entry-level T and the flagship S variants of the German sports car. They all featured the same 2.4L engine with the 'E' putting out 165hp in US-spec form. However, this car has been given an 'S' engine which produces closer to 200hp.

As you may, or may not be able to tell, this example used wear a full coat of Conda Green paint, but now has badky rusted leaving the car looking a bit sorry for itself. However, other than the rust we can see, it looks like the car is quite solid overall and has strong mechanics, making it a great project car for the right Porsche enthusiast.

Would you buy this?

  • I’m sure that one day it will once again be a pristine example or a resto-mod

  • No, I wouldn’t buy it.

I like Porsche, but those old cars were pretty awful really. You’d need to do some serious suspension and engine improvements, then completely change the interior

  • It is not too bad actually, but ~$40k seems excessive. I would only consider it for about $12k as a project car. I guess everything is worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. If the auction closes with the car unsold there's your answer. If it sells maybe start trolling junkyards for carcasses to put on Ebay LOL😂😂
