Shelby fans will go absolutely nuts for this factory Mustang with 1,000hp
They made just five examples...
We ofen refer to the holy grail of Mustangs as being a 1969 Fastback, but one which slips under the radar of many Musang fans is something rather special from Shelby which came with 1,000hp from factory and there's one for sale.
Known as the Ford Shelby Mustang 1000, this 2014-shape 'stang came with a whopping 1,000hp from factory and just five examples were ever made. Shelby wanted to make more than just five, but the cost and testing involved was just too much, so that's why there's so few in existence.
Some of the changes this one has over other Mustangs of its age include, more notably its engine size which has gone from Mustang’s 5.4L 4-valve V8 to 5.8 litres. They achieved this by using new cylinder-liner technology and a more efficient supercharging system.
Engine upgrades include heavy-duty main and head studs, forged aluminum pistons, Stage 3 ported heads with titanium valves and retainers, a high-capacity Shelby/Kenne Bell water-intercooled supercharger fed by a free-breathing 4.5-inch inlet pipe and massive 1,850 CFM throttle body, Shelby performance fuel injectors and a 1,000 HP-capable fuel system.
Borla headers have also been fitted which give it a great grumble through 3-inch pipes. It also features a Shelby Super twin clutch and flywheel set and oil cooler-equipped Shelby rear end to Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres on Shelby billet forged three-piece alloy wheels.
This is a true petrolhead's dream and this example is finished in a stunning Ruby Red exterior colour and comes with official Shelby museum documentation. And oh, it's also a manual.
It's currently available at Mecum Auctions and could be worth a pretty penny or two.
