Shooting targa Tasmania
10 years of photographing Targa tasmania
Targa Tasmania is a world class international motorsport event that is about to enter its 26th Event and I have been fortunate to shoot many of those years. First for the Subaru works team and then the Mazda works team.
The Mazda RX8SP in action
This is a tarmac rally that travels over 2000kms with over 40 competitive stages on closed roads for the true motoring enthusiast, catering for up to 300 selected cars ranging from classics to supercars.

Spread over 5 days the event traverses Tasmanias stunning scenery and includes some stages up to 50km long. It is possibly one of the toughest events I have ever photographed because there are very few if any access roads so you have to get into stage to your photopoint before the road is closed.

You also have to be prepared for incredibly variable weather. For example I have been on the long 52km Mount Arrowsmith stage and been snowed on! But when the sun is shining and you are in some of the world's most amazing scenery with a cavalcade of cars passing by there really is no better place to be a photographer.
