Should Lewis Hamilton race for Ferrari?

Why not?

1y ago

Last year, while I watched Kimi Raikkonen come 2nd at Monza while Lewis Hamilton won the race. While there were a lot of cheers during the ceremony for Kimi and a Ferrari driver on the podium I heard one of the commentators, I think it was Crofty (David Croft) who said that I wonder if Lewis would ever want to wear the red suit and stand on a podium in Monza or something similar to it.

Now, with Lewis's contract coming to an end next season and Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto showing some interest in the driver it actually got me wondering - Should Lewis race for Ferrari?

..Yes, why should he not?..

I would actually say - Yes, why should he not? Let's face it, even if we do not like Lewis Hamilton, he is a good driver and has records and world championships. I do agree the Mercedes works team's car is brilliant. But, every Formula 1 driver would say "yes" if Ferrari asked them if they would like to race for the team.

Weirdly, Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff has said in an interview with the Guardian that there is a 25% chance that Lewis could sign with Ferrari. Lewis said that he is happy where he is now and these decisions are not easy to make but, it would be a smart and wise for him to think about it, if it was the last stage or nearing the end of his career.

So there is a possibility if Lewis is nearing the end of his career we could see him drive for Ferrari.

What do you think? Should Lewis drive for Ferrari after his Merc contract ends?

  • Have you seen what pathetic shape Ferrari are in right now? Both their drivers have no trust in the team anymore. Why would Lewis drive for Ferrari?

At the start of 2019 F1 season, Ferrari realistically had two drivers and a car that could compete with Lewis Hamilton for the championship. Not only for driver's, but constructors as well. Mismanagement within Ferrari has meant they came nowhere near their potential. Until Ferrari makes decisive moves to better the team at the top, they will remain hopelessly struggling to find their way through the mire.

So, Lewis Hamilton drive for Ferrari? Not on your life. Lewis wants to win more championships, something Ferrari is incapable of at this time, with the people they have at the top of the team. I believe Lewis knows this.

Should Ferrari makes the necessary changes to the team and bring back confidence for any driver who would drive for them, then perhaps it may become a reality. But as of now it looks unlikely.

    • do you think he will be able to manage the long driving stretch at Le Mans as compared to F1's 2 hour race limit?

    • Test his grit. To me F1 is a gentleman’s game and he’s already proved himself at it. NASCAR is a bit more gritty. I think they do a better job of testing a driver’s mettle than modern F1.
