Silverstone BRITAIN 2017 Qualifying - The Rundown
All the deets from qualifying in silverstone, England.
It was a rainy start to qualifying in silverstone with dizzles of rain forcing teams to switch to the intermediate wet tyres. The Saubers, Force indias and Lewis Hamilton started on Super Soft slick tyres but a change of heavy rain lead the teams to switch to the inters. Daniel Riccardo's RedBull sadly had engine troubles which forced him to the side of the track, near the old pit lane. This caused a short red flag at the 10 minute mark while the car was removed from the track side. Later in the session, the track racing line dried. To counter this, teams switched to the slicks with Fernando Alonso quickly pitting and just securing enough time to run another lap. As the track dried, this gave Mclaren room for P1.
Q2 was a dry session with previous Q1 pole sitter Fernando Alonso being knocked out of Q2 and will start 13th on the grid tomorrow. Knocked out of qualifying 2 was Jolyon Palmer, Daniil Kvyat, Fernando Alonso, Carlos Sainz and Felipe Massa.
Again it was a dry session for Q3. A small incident occurred with Romain Grojean and Lewis Hamilton. Romain accused Lewis of blocking him during his hit lap. The issue is being investigated by the FIA. In the dying stages of the session, Valtteri Bottas attempted a fastest lap but locked up into turn 3. Hamilton set a 1:26.600 and then came Kimi Raikonen setting a 1:27.147. Lastly, Vettel set a 1:27.356 giving him 3rd place. Lewis Hamilton equals the late, great Jim clark for British pole positions.
