Silverstone: Espargaro: Definitely one of our best days with KTM

Pol Espargaro praised the rapid progress of his KTM team after yet another fine showing at Silverstone on Friday, when the Catalan placed seventh on the FP2 time sheets and demonstrated an eye-catching pace.

Shrugging off the disappointment of a retirement from the Austrian Grand Prix, Espargaro was quick on hard tyres in the afternoon session under the English sun, and sat less than one second off pace setter Cal Crutchlow’s quickest time at the end of FP2.

Along with his speed, Espargaro was more than content with the window in which KTM’s technicians dialled in the RC16’s electronics. At the beginning of the winter, it had taken more than one full day of testing. Here at Silverstone, the 45-minute FP1 was sufficient – a real sign of progress.

“Definitely it was one of the best days we had with KTM,” he said. “This track is quite tricky. I’m super-happy because in one morning we were able to set up the electronics in a very good way. Then in the afternoon the electronics were quite fixed.
