Silverstone: Zarco leads Yamaha 1-2-3 in damp FP3
In damp conditions, Johann Zarco leads Viñales and Folger on Saturday morning; Frenchman only man in overall top ten to improve on Friday time.
From Friday’s blue skies, British fans were treated to an overwhelming grey that hung above Silverstone for MotoGP FP3, a session in which Johann Zarco lead a Yamaha 1-2-3 that was held on a damp-but-drying track.
The 3.6-mile Silverstone circuit was all-but-empty for the first fifteen minutes, and only in the session’s final ten minutes – usually a hubbub of frenetic excitement – did a handful of riders improve on their personal best times from the day before.
Of Friday’s top ten, Zarco was the only man to slash tenths of his previous best effort, the Frenchman ending FP3 0.14s quicker than Maverick Viñales, who appears to be fast and confident no matter the conditions.
Tech 3 team-mate Jonas Folger was a much-improved third too, the German apparently putting the effects of a bout of food poisoning behind him to rise up the order.
