Simon Roberts to leave Williams with immediate effect
Team Principal Roberts will depart the British outfit as Williams' restructuring continues a statement says.
Simon Roberts, who took the role of Acting Team Principal late last year, will leave Williams Racing it has been announced. Roberts was charged with managing the early phase of the transition from family-to-Dorilton Capital ownership when this role was later made permanent.
A Williams statement acknowledges that Roberts has "played a key role in managing the team" though the transition. Jost Capito, Williams Racing's new CEO said he "would like to thank him for his great contributions" to the team.
Mr Capito, also a recent joinee, will assume the role of Team Principal in the wake of Roberts' departure. Capito is very experienced with running motorsports teams having worked for Sauber, Porsche, Ford, BMW and McLaren. He also led the very successful Volkswagen rally teams.
François-Xavier Demaison, who was promoted to the role of Technical Director by owners Dorilton will be charged with both trackside and engineering responsibilities.
Mr Roberts said "it has been a pleasure to take on the role of Team Principal" and wished the team well for the future.
The statement finishes with by saying that the "restructure further streamlines operations as part of the long-term objectives to return Williams to the front of the grid".
