Welcome back to another Simple Question Saturday everyone! The (almost) weekly feature where I ask the collective motoring minds of DRIVETRIBE to answer, once and for all, some of the greatest questions in the car universe.

Now, the last two SQS polls have been a bit of a walkover for their respective winners. First time out, the incredible Ferrari F40 smashed the competition to become DT's favourite period supercar! Then, the good old Land Rover Defender trounced its biggest rival, the Toyota Land Cruiser in a two-car duel.

This week, we turn our attention to two of the greatest hot hatchbacks in history. The Peugeot 205 GTi, and the Volkswagen Golf GTi MkII. They may not have been the first of the breed, but between them, these two cars arguably set the standard for every other hot hatch since to follow. Even in 2018, their successors are still at the forefront of the pocket rocket scene.

But that's enough from me, I'm going to hand the floor over to you guys and without further ado...

TAKE THE POLL AND LET ME KNOW YOUR REASONS IN THE COMMENTS!

DON'T FORGET TO LEAVE A BUMP AND AS ALWAYS, THANKS FOR READING!

*For the particular amongst you, and to avoid any doubt, I am talking here about ALL variants of the Peugeot 205 GTi (1.6 and 1.9) made between 1984 and 1993. As well as ALL variants of the MkII Golf GTi made between 1984 and 1991 (8v, 16v, G60).

      • There’s a blast from the past. Can’t remember the last time I saw one, even as someone who actively spends time with old cars!

    • The 205 was a very pretty car; still is actually. As a young man, back in the late 80s, I had a doomed crush on a very pretty rich girl who ran around in a brand new 205 1.9 Gti in graphite grey. Whole scenario was a complete heartbreaker.

    • I had two 1.9s - loved them both to bits, but they were tinny back then let alone now. Secretly coveted a 16v big bumper oak green GTI....still voted for the pug though

    • I think if you want something to use as a daily then the Golf, for a weekend Hoon then the 205 hands down
