As times have moved forward in the ever power-hungry world of motoring, so has the Fabia vRS, moving from the 1.9 turbo diesel, to a 1.4 petrol engine with a turbo and a supercharger, which is good to produce 180 bhp, and with a remap you will be seeing over 200 bhp…..CHAOS!
The reason for the two is that the supercharger works with the engine on low down revs, up until about 2,500/3,000. This allows the turbo enough time to spool up and give you that boost everyone is familiar with in a turbo car, when the turbo comes on song. Purists and petrol head enthusiasts won’t be overly keen on this car, as the engine is mated with a 7 speed DSG box, which can seem a tad sluggish when using the paddles compared to some of the new technology in the DSG boxes now.
Positives
As everyone now days is aware, since the 90s, Skoda has been owned by the VW group. So it comes as no surprise that the MK II Fabia vRS is on the same platform as the VW Polo GTI and also the Seat Ibiza Cupra. However, the Fabia does seem to be less well-known about than the GTI and Cupra. This could partially be down to a lot of people going for the other brands due to brand snobbery. Lets be honest, we’re all guilty of it in one form or another, most of you at home are probably reading this on an iPhone or Android because one has a better name than the other.
One of the best-selling points over the Cupra and GTI is the practicality of it. It has 5 doors, which neither of the others do and it also has a Skoda badge. This badge is on there to save you money. On the used car market, the vRS is a lot cheaper than its VW and Seat counterparts, with a good example costing under £8,000 for a Skoda. Furthermore, as it has a Skoda badge on, your insurance premium will also be less. A similarly aged Seat will set you back around £10,000 and for the VW you’ll be looking at over £11,000. And at the end of the day, if you remove the badge, they’re all the same, but choosing wisely can save you over £3,000!

Had one and luckily it was a good one! Miss it to be fair but wasn’t the right car for what I now do with my current car.
