Smoke, flames and a look back at 2017

I made a New Year's resolution last year to go to more racing events through the year. Here are some of the highlights and unseen footage and pictures

Initially, the thought was to remain local. When I say local, I mean national. However, when I ended up seeing the 24 Hours of Le Mans, that's when the possibilities to make the most of what is out there were made clear. it is not simply the case of going to the nearest track event and seeing whatever car is flying by.

The year started off with the Autosport International Show where I went on my first solo adventure. It took a lot to just get myself up for the day without any company. However, the upside to that was that I was in charge of my own day and did not have to wait on anyone to go and see a particular exhibit.

WEC: Silverstone

Silverstone was the second occasion where I decided to make a solo trip. It was also the first time I starting exploring how to use my camera to add and enhance motion to a still frame. To this day I believe that I have captured one of the best pictures possible with an amateur camera at this event.

24 Hours of Le Mans

This is easily one of the key highlights, if not the best out of all the events. It was the first time I drove abroad. If you ever have the opportunity to go, do not hesitate to book tickets. It is not solely about the racing. There is something there for everyone.

Goodwood

The invasion of the drifters made this event more exciting. In addition, we are in an era where engineering is taking us to completely new avenues. The battle between fuel-powered, hybrid and electrics is becoming more interesting. Revival was also a different take on the norm. It was great to go back in time and see the monstrous classics tearing up the circuit.

Flame & Thunder

Jet-fuelled dragsters, monster trucks, drift cars, bikes. Santa Pod has it all. When the jet cars fly down the quarter mile, your ears pop and you can say or shout anything you want and no-one can be heard. This was the most difficult event to take pictures for given how quick everything everything is!

Also got into my first drift ride! Disclaimer: There is a happy guy in the car.

2018 and Beyond...

The blog has been a fun past time over the past year. 2017 was a year full of firsts. Don't worry, the adventures won't stop here. Keep an eye out for this blog! As part of my 2018 resolution, the aim is to go to a wider variety of events; not strictly GT racer. The other aim is to upload more VR racing videos as well and seeing how my racing style progresses.
