SnowRunner could be 2020's sleeper gaming hit for petrolheads
Forget your next-gen Forzas, Gran Turismos and Assetto Corsas (Corsi?) – what's shaping up to be 2020's best driving game is hitting Xbox One and Playstation 4 in just over a month's time. And you've probably never heard of it.
SnowRunner is the sequel to Spintires: MudRunner, and it's basically a tortuously realistic off-road trucking sim. While MudRunner was set in bleak, monotonous Asian wildernesses, SnowRunner plunges you into sticky situations of a far colder and more scenic nature. It's a game where you have to eke out every bit of traction from the landscape, engaging diff locks and four-wheel-drive systems while keeping a careful eye on your truck's load.
Feast your eyes on the new gameplay overview trailer below, and then picture yourself towing your mates out of peril online. I once spent a good six hours completing a single MudRunner map with some friends a few years back, and it's seriously satisfying successfully navigating a seemingly impassable ravine with a load of logs hitched up. Don't expect it to be an easy game to complete, but do expect to enter a zen-like state of calm as you edge towards your objective at 2mph in windscreen-deep water.
In short: if you're at all into off-roading (or the idea of it), you'll want to stick this on your gaming shortlist. It'll be brilliant. Painful, but brilliant.
