Solar Eclipse TripMichael Walko posted in Zoom Zoom Roadtrips4y ago942 Award- Time to pack the Mazda up and head to Madras Oregon for the 8/21 solar eclipse.- Our destination a large field across from the airport along with thousands of other Eclipser's. This is our basecamp for the activities.- When you have time to kill you should check out the Madras Air Museum.- Warbirds fly in the night before the eclipse.- Sunspot on the star of the show. (Day before)- The eclipse begins and you notice a slow dimming of the light.- It's now getting significantly darker and a cool wind begins to blow.- Then it happens! The shadow of the moon sweeps across the valley and you're thrown into darkness. It's cold, like 20 degrees colder than it was just minutes before. - Solar prominences shoot from the surface of the sun. The sky is dark and the stars become visible at 10AM. - It's hard to put into words the how unique and surreal this experience was.- It felt very spiritual as if at that moment you become aware just how connected you are to the universe around you.- As quickly as it began, it's over and time to hit the road again. A normally 5 hour trip back to Seattle turns into 11 as you deal with the throngs of eclipsers. :)Time to hit the road again. Destination: Madras Oregon 8/21/17 solar eclipse. Award Michael
